A Cheat’s Guide to Feeding Your Toddler
Weaning was one of the most stressful parts of parenthood for me. I’m a pretty good cook but it became apparent fairly early that our mostly paleo diet wasn’t going to work with BLW, as an added challenge Alfie hated quinoa, sweet potatoes, wild rice and basically everything else we ate at dinner time. These are the recipes I fought back with! Alfie seems to have a inate awareness of my natural tendency towards lazy parenting and responds accordingly by refusing to eat anything out of a packet. Since his fist mouthful of food he has rejected all baby food as well as jarred sauces or convenience products. Which isn’t…

A First Time Mum’s Guide to Thriving with a Newborn
You Can Thrive I made it through my first year of motherhood and I’d like to think that I have a few tips and tricks up my sleeve which will help new parents. Here are 6 things you can do to prepare for the birth of your baby. As a first time Mum I’d heard all the horror stories! I expected the worst; no sleep, taking hours to leave the house, exploding nappies, a body in complete ruins. Most of these things happened but what no one tells you is that YOU CAN COPE with them! And you can cope especially easily if you’re organised, well fed and have had a…

An Open Letter of Thanks; It Takes A Village
Alfie is very lucky to have been born into an extended family who ladies him as much as his parents do. In honour of Grandparents Day, I’ve written an open letter of thanks to Alfie’s grandparents and my village; a village which surrounds my family and I with love, support and encouragement. Thank You Thank you for taking for Alfie when he was sick. Thank you for taking Alfie when I was tired. And thank you for taking Alfie when we sick and tired of each other. Thank you for accepting that I know it all but being gracious enough to give advice when I finally asked for it. Thank…

My Birthday Bucket List
Every year I write a list of things I want to achieve before my next birthday, I call it THE BIRTHDAY BUCKET LIST. So often we roll from birthday to birthday without setting time aside to intentionally pursue personal goals. I don’t mean professional achievements or parenting milestones, I’m talking intimate triumphs that make you do a happy dance when you start to plan them. I have found the Birthday Bucket List to be a really useful way to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone. Now that I’m a mother I think it’s going to be an important part of my self care. So here it is,…

A Reminder
In which the loss of a gardener and the fading of an allotment reminded me that when a woman becomes a mother another self must pass.

The Realisation of a Dream
"I never once doubted that this knocker was cast purely to sit on my front door, the place where I would finally stop and be happy." How a door knocker became my crystal ball and the power of belief.

Our Experience of Baby Led Weaning
Why we made the unpopular decision to give up on Baby Led Weaning and embrace spoon feeds. Baby Led Weaning has become another way of saying “good parenting”. Baby’s who are weaned the BLW way are less fussy eaters, more independent and have better motor skills than babies who are are spoon fed. Allegedly. There are definitely pros and cons to BLW and spoon feeding, but for us the way if the spoon was the way to a happy, full baby! I loved the idea of Baby Led Weaning because I love cooking, I’m fairly confident that the majorly of meals served on Cnoc na Gáire are healthy and tasty.…
